… a few words about the new standard!

For decades, the German mining standard DIN 23311 has, first and foremost, regulated dimensions and properties of knee-protectors in respect of continuous use and rate of wear.

With the implementation of the EU Directive 89/686/EWG, knee-protectors are, by definition, Personal Protection Equipment in Category II and have to undergo prototype testing.
The European standard for knee-protectors (DIN EN 14404) has only been in existence since February 2005 but is now the basis for the quality standard testing which is obligatory for all knee-protectors distributed in Europe.

Our knee-protectors are tested and certified in accordance with the regulations of DIN EN 14404.

Amongst others, the following points are tested in the complex certification procedure:

1.Pressure distribution, measured using a mechanical test-knee
2.Impact resistance
3.Penetration resistance
4.Comfort
5.Elasticity and width of straps

Our knee-protectors which, for dozens of years, have been manufactured to the standards of the coal mining industry (such as our Cat. nos. 4, 5, 10, 20, 23), must comply with DIN EN 14404 and also meet the additional requirements of DIN 23311 in respect of abrasion resistance, permanent elasticity of the cushion and  wear resistance..

This is our quality benchmark.
